Renesas Launches 64-bit RZ/G3E MPU for AI-Powered HMI and Edge Computing
Renesas Electronics Corporation (TSE:6723), a global leader in advanced semiconductor solutions, has unveiled its latest innovation—the 64-bit RZ/G3E microprocessor (MPU), designed for next-generation Human Machine Interface (HMI) applications. Equipped with AI acceleration and edge computing capabilities, the RZ/G3E delivers powerful performance for industrial and consumer devices such as factory systems, medical displays, retail kiosks, and building automation.

Next-Level Performance for AI and HMI
The RZ/G3E combines a quad-core Arm® Cortex®-A55 (up to 1.8GHz) with a Cortex-M33 core and the Ethos™-U55 Neural Processing Unit (NPU). This configuration enables advanced AI tasks including image recognition, voice processing, and anomaly detection, all while reducing CPU load.
For HMI applications, the MPU supports dual Full HD (1920×1080) video output at 60fps, with interfaces such as LVDS, MIPI-DSI, and parallel RGB, alongside a MIPI-CSI camera input for vision and sensing applications.
“The RZ/G3E expands our RZ/G lineup with built-in AI processing, providing a scalable path for embedded developers,” said Daryl Khoo, Vice President of Embedded Processing at Renesas. “It addresses the growing need for intelligent HMI solutions with advanced vision, voice, and analytics capabilities.”
Connectivity and Edge-Ready Features
The MPU is equipped with multiple high-speed interfaces, including:
- PCI Express 3.0 (2 lanes, up to 8Gbps)
- USB 3.2 Gen2 (10Gbps) and USB 2.0
- Dual Gigabit Ethernet for networking and 5G modules
- CAN-FD for industrial applications
This ensures seamless integration with modern cloud, storage, and communication platforms.
Power Efficiency and Fast Linux Resume
Designed with low power in mind, the RZ/G3E achieves:
- ~50mW standby mode
- ~1mW deep standby mode
It also supports DDR self-refresh, allowing quick resume for Linux applications while retaining memory data.
Comprehensive Linux Ecosystem
Renesas provides long-term Linux support with its Verified Linux Package (VLP), ensuring over 10 years of maintenance. Developers can also leverage Linux BSP Plus with Yocto and the latest LTS kernel, as well as popular OS distributions like Ubuntu and Debian.
